Raised in Lawrenceville, Phillip Bates serves as a hitting instructor to provide his knowledge and experience to a younger generation. The Central Gwinnett graduate recorded two strong years at Reinhardt University batting .324 in both years combined, and winning Gold Glove Award in his conference. Bates then transferred to his hometown school Georgia Gwinnett College in order to be a part of the first year program. On top of being named Georgia NAIA Player of the Year, Bates led his team to the NAIA World Series and batted .377 with 23 extra base hits his senior year while slugging at a .521 percentile. He drove in 45 runs and scored 75 himself. Bates blazed the base paths, swiping 33 bases. This followed an impressive junior season in which Bates batted .387 with a .500 OBP. He also notched 22 RBIs and scored 56 runs.

After college, Bates signed a contract to play professionally in the Frontier League for the Joliet(IL) Slammers. In two seasons combined, Phillip Bates has played 147 games batting .255 with 53 RBIs, 130 hits, 24 stolen bases, 20 doubles and 8 home runs. Bates also helped his team win their division and compete for the 2016 Frontier League Championship. Bates is an outdoorsman, spending much of his free time fishing, hiking and on the golf course.
